Congress passed the Military Lending Act (MLA) in 2006. This Act, and the regulations under the Act, are intended to protect active duty members of the military, their spouses, and their dependents from certain lending practices.

The act is codified at 10 U.S. Code § 987 (Terms of consumer credit extended to members and dependents: limitations). The Department of Defense (DOD) promulgated rules under the Act at 32 CFR Part 232.
