U.S. Government Shutdown (11)

In September 2019, Maxine Waters (D-CA), the Chairwoman of the U.S. House Committee on Financial Services, introduced H.R. 4328, the Protecting Innocent Consumers Affected by a Shutdown Act. Also on the bill was U.S. Rep. Greg Meeks (D-NY) and three others, all Democrats. This bill puts obligations on CRAs to not post adverse information in ways similar to bills introduced in the New York legislature.

Chairwoman Waters’ bill was reported out of Financial Services on a partisan vote in December 2020. The committee report is online, Report No. 116–635.

The language of H.R. 4328 was folded into H.R. 3621, the Comprehensive Credit Reporting Enhancement, Disclosure, Innovation, and Transparency Act of 2020 (‘Comprehensive CREDIT Act of 2020). That bill, sponsored by U.S. Rep. Ayanna Pressley (D-MA), passed the U.S. House in January 2020 on a largely partisan vote. That bill has other documents online, including the H. Rept. 116-331 and the H.Prt. 116-47.
