CDIA State Legislative Update: Sept 10, 2020: Register today for our popular annual state legislative update led by Eric J. Ellman, Senior Vice President of Public Policy and Legal Affairs of the Consumer Data Industry Association.
Consumer reporting agencies (CRAs), as well as those that furnish data to and receive data from CRAs, are popular targets for state legislation and regulation. This may be truer now in this time of increased economic stress and social dislocation. Often driven by public opinion and perceived demand, legislators, regulators and the courts are rapidly developing new law and compliance obligations to address issues ranging from security breaches and data privacy to credit reporting and credit scoring. The 2020 state legislative session was short-lived and of limited overall impact to the consumer reporting ecosystem, but that will change soon.
This program will provide insight on new oversight, prohibitions, and regulations as well as cover the impact for the consumer reporting industry, data furnishing and data user communities. It will also offer a preview of what’s ahead.
