In May 2024, there was a hearing in the Senate Commerce Committee’s Subcommittee on Consumer Protection, Product Safety, and Data Security. The hearing, Strengthening Data Security to Protect Consumers was called by the chair, Sen. John Hickenlooper (D-CO), and it “focus[ed] on the importance of data security, and how to protect the confidentiality, integrity, and accessibility of consumer data and safeguard data against unauthorized access, including through data minimization and robust data security practices.”
